Sawai Madhopur gets all its attention and appreciation because of the large forest reserve. This national park is famous for its higher population destination of tigers (there are less than 100 tigers in the park and chances of spotting a tiger is very less).

This wild region also holds a large number of local and migratory birds, water sources, 10th century Ranthambore Fort, which is in ruins.     The ancient town dates back to the mid of the 8th century. This region was solely used for hunting purposes and thus, most of the historic structures in this region hold an architecture element of hunting lodges and wildlife beauty. Sawai Madhopur was a planned city built during the 18th century on the site of the ancient town. The planned city holds many interesting structures.

    But, the most iconic structure of the region is the 10th century Fort. The Fort holds architecture elements of various empires as it was built by several kings over a period of time.

  • Spiritual Heritage

    Although Hindus are more in population in this region, Sawai Madhopur was an important Jainism destination. In the Siddhasenasuri literature, the Ranthambore Fort was listed as only of the holy sites of Jain. Jain structures were built during the Mughal period too. You can find Hindu and Jain temples in and around the town. Top temples to visit are Lord Sambhavanath Temple, Amreshwar Mahadev temple, Balajika Mandir, Chauth Mata Mandir, and others.

Climate of the land

Sawai Madhopur lies to the lush south-east side of Rajasthan. The town lies on the Vindhyan Plateau. The north of the town lies closer to the Banas River and to the east lies the Parbati River.

Thus, this region is lush and fertile when compared to other parts of Rajasthan. The town has a dry summer followed by lush monsoon and winter season. The summer starts in March and ends in June. The rainy season starts in July and ends in October. Winter starts in November and ends by February. The best time to visit the destination is from November to May.
